Association of Body Mass Index with Orexin- A Levels in Reproductive Age Group Women

Background and Aim: Orexin-A are hypothalamic neuropeptides contributing to regularization of neuroendocrine homeostasis, feeding behavior sleep-wakefulness rhythm. Blood pressure, sympathetic activation, blood glucose level, metabolic status is controlled by neuropeptide. The present study aimed evaluate the association body mass index with levels in reproductive age group women. Methodology: This cross-sectional was carried out on 120 healthy women at Department Physiology, Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar from November 2020 April 2021. Prior conduction, ethical approval taken institute committee. Informed written consent obtained each individual. All range 18 years 40 were enrolled. Women obstetrical problems had pregnancy excluded study. A pro-designed proforma used for taking medical history complications participant. participants underwent standardized questionnaire based interview regarding history, menstrual history. Anthropometric parameters participant measured. Orexin-A/hypocretin-enzyme immunoassay kit utilized measurement fasting serum orexin levels. For data analysis descriptive statistics, SPSS version 25 used. Results: Of total women, about 66 (53%) followed (20.8%) between 26 30 years, 17 (14.2%) 31 35 12 (10%) years. Based different mean orexin-A ranged 47.26±16.48 pgm/ml aged above 51.31±13.89 However, no significant revealed both statistically P=0.781. positive correlation found BMI r=0.172, p=0.05 weight r=-.179, p=0.41.
